School Discipline
School Discipline Book
Never can be succeeded or any success can never be retained without discipline. Disciplined life is integral not only for success but also for peaceful life. It is therefore utmost importance should be given to improve discipline in student’s life.
This discipline plan should be started from discipline in formal settings (School premises) and then shifted into personal life.
- Proper and effective discipline plan should be made and its implementation should be started from 1st of October. However from next session, Disciplinary planned should be followed right from the first day of the session.
- This plan should be in written and be properly documented.
- A discipline in-charge or committee should be established.
- Currently In-charge for disciplinary committee is Miss Sana. She can take one more members in his team. However it is recommended that she should include students in his team instead of teachers. Students Government can help her in this regard.
Assessment:
- SFB (Student’s Functional Behavior) assessment should be conducted and recorded.
- Overall classroom behavior must be recorded and updated.
Classroom & School Discipline
Golden Rules about Classroom Management
- Ensure that you have clearly stated rules and procedures with established consequences that are expected and reviewed regularly. All students must know the rules, routines and expectations.
- Never continue on with instruction when the rules are being broken – pause, delay and ensure that you have your student’s attention.
- Catch your students using appropriate behavior and praise them!
- Use behavior contracts when necessary and follow up with appropriate incentives.
- Be sure that your instructional periods are NOT too long; students need to be mobile throughout the day.
- Provide individual, personal cueing and prompts to certain students as needed. Sometimes just touching a student’s shoulder will bring them back to task.
- POST the important rules – keep it short, no more than 6 and refer to it often. These should be posted after the class has brainstormed them.
- Make sure you are teaching to all the various learning styles your students have. A student who is not being reached is more likely to be a problem.
Measuring behaviors
Teachers should place a glass (Transparent Plastic) jar in their class for each student. Each Jar should be labeled with student name. These jars should be in some prominent position. For each better performance, put one colorful small ball in that jar. At the end of the month student with most points (balls in jar) will be declared as student of the month of the class with a badge on his/her shoulder as praises.
Student with most points in one year will be declared as student of the year.
Note: Discipline In-Charge and Principal should have different color balls than teachers. So that they can reward for students’ better performance in some special way. These balls can have double points than normal balls.
Examples of situations on which teachers can reward students.
- Neat and clean CW
- Neat and clean HW
- Regular HW
- Keeping his/her desk or chair and surrounding clean.
- Notifying and cleaning classroom garbage.
- For listening to teacher’s instructions
- For neat and clean uniform
- For any other good performance like speech, poem etc.
Examples of situations on which Disciplinary In-Charge or principal can reward students.
- If any student is seen picking wrappers (garbage) from corridor or outside classroom.
- If any student is seen trying to bring peace in a conflict or quarrel.
- If any student is found caring or consoling other students in distress.
- If any student is found performing any leadership role beyond his/her duties like telling a story, incident in very good way.
NOTE: Points should be awarded on very good performances. Giving easy points can ruin purpose of this strategy. However too much rigidity should also be avoided when giving marks.
